PLACENTIA, CA — October 26, 2017 — Print & Finishing Solutions (PFS), part of the national Graphic Systems North America (GSNA) group of authorized RMGT dealers and distributors in North America, will be hosting their Annual Technology Expo event on November 16-18. The event is a chance for customers to tour the facilities, as well as interact with a wide range of vendors who will have their own equipment and supplies on display as well.
PFS began hosting the technology expo ten years ago, when the Guttenberg Festival ceased to be held, leaving a vacuum for west-coast printers to come together to learn and experience new technologies first hand. This year, the company has expanded their showroom space, opening it up to a larger number of vendors and attendees, as the popularity of the event has continued to grow. “We are incredibly pleased to continue to host this event for our west-coast customers,” said Robert Ordway, President, PFS. “As the event has grown, we have more than doubled our showroom space to be able to accommodate everyone. This year, we are expecting more than 300 attendees, and we welcome each and every one to enjoy the wide range of equipment we’ll have this year.” So far this year, more than 15 vendors have been confirmed for the expo, with the latest RMGT 9 Series, 5 Color with LED UV Technology taking center stage. The press features all of the latest RMGT enhancements and accessories, and INX International has partnered with PFS to provide G7-certified inks for the press. Other highlights at the event include the Horizon Rotary Die Cutter and Smart Slitter and the MGI JetVarnish 3D with iFoil for digital embellishing, plus much more. “It is exciting to be demonstrating the power of the RGMT 9 Series with LED UV in our own building this year. PFS is proud to continue the Commit to Print theme that has proven to be so successful in North America,” said Kian Hemmen, Western Regional Sales Manager, PFS. “I strongly believe that it is one of the motivating factors in over 50 on these new machine installations over the past 3 years , with seven of them in California alone. Now we are able to bring the RMGT 9 Series closer to our friends in the Western US in a technology center, so that they can really experience what the machine will be able to do for them.” The event is catered, and there will be presentations starting every 30 minutes throughout the course of the event, walking attendees through each piece of technology on display, and giving hands-on demonstrations of what the equipment is capable of. “The annual technology expo is a great way to come and see a lot of our technology and partners at the same time, with the opportunity to get hands-on with a much wider range of equipment at the same time,” said Ordway. “But the expanded center wasn’t designed to just open its doors once a year. It’s a state-of-the-art technology center, where customers and prospects alike are always invited to come in and experience the breadth and depth of what PFS has to offer. Taking care of your business is our business — and this expanded showroom space and annual event are two ways we continue to serve.” About Print & Finishing Solutions (PFS) Print & Finishing Solutions (PFS) is the largest graphic arts service and supplies company west of the Mississippi. The press has opened up capacity and costs savings far beyond what the shop originally anticipated. LANDISVILLE, PA — October 11, 2017 — Haines Printing, based in North East, PA, loved their Ryobi 755 they had been running for years. So when the time came to replace another, older offset press, they knew they wanted to upgrade to the RMGT 9 Series press. Before installation, Haines Printing had maxed out the single shift they were running. Today, on that same single shift, they have opened up new capacity and are now focused on adding new clients and jobs.
“We can be very competitive now,” said Jeff Haines, President of Haines Printing. “We can run twice the sheet size, with half the number of plates, sheets, signatures, etc. We are moving more work, and we have more time we can fill with additional jobs now.” In fact, the press is so efficient, Haines Printing has begun shifting work back onto the offset press from the digital they had begun switching to. “We put in a digital press last December, and work was starting to migrate that way, with our digital runs getting longer. Now, with the RMGT, it has started moving back the other way. Our RMGT 9 Series caught up to the efficiencies of the digital press — and then surpassed it. So it is once again more efficient and economical to move even some shorter-runs jobs back to offset.” “We purchased the RMGT 9 Series with a coater and 1-over-4 perfector,” said Haines. “We were looking for something with the larger, 16-page signature sheet size, but 40” presses had too large of a footprint and plate cost were about 20% higher. The RMGT had a smaller footprint and the perfector — something we couldn’t do without.” On one job alone, run quarterly, they are producing a 12-page book where the cover is printed 1-over-4 and has over 200 black versions on the cover, and the inside pages are printed 1-over-1 — and they need to produce 300,000 copies. “On this one job alone, we are saving about 75 working hours every quarter. We cut the run length of the inside pages in half, and for the covers, we’re running twice as many versions on a single sheet — and running them in one pass instead of two.” And, noted Haines, they aren’t sacrificing quality for speed. On another job, he said, they won the work away from another printer, who was running on competing technology. They were able to do the setup and runs faster than their competitors because of the larger sheet size, and the client came back “just totally amazed at the quality,” said Haines. “It was so much cleaner than the work they had gotten in the past, and they just couldn’t get over the quality difference.” Haines Printing purchased their RMGT 9 Series from GE Richards, one of the distributors that make up the national Graphic Systems North America (GSNA) sales and service for RMGT in the United States. Haines noted that he has been purchasing from GE Richards for more than a decade, providing high-quality products and service. “They have treated us well, and stood behind us the entire time we were getting the RMGT 9 Series up and running,” said Haines. Solon, OH — October 3, 2017 — The National Group has been competing and succeeding for 45 years, and they aren’t showing signs of slowing down any time soon. Leo S. Farrell, President and Owner of the business, notes that they started as a small copy and print shop. His first commercial offset press was a Ryobi 2-color press purchased in the early 1990s. “We were running work through it twice to get process color,” he said. They’ve had a few presses since then, but, Farrell noted, “we’ve come full circle back to the new Ryobi MHI Graphic Technology (RMGT) and it’s like coming home again.” The National Group invested in a 5-color with coater, 8-up RMGT 9 Series press which replaced an older, 5-color, 4-up press. The additional capacity is allowing the shop to make better use of their time, and run their jobs more efficiently. The National Group currently has 22 employees, and Farrell noted that some press operators were regularly doing 20-30 hours of overtime every week just to keep up. Now, he said, they have eliminated that, and they still have capacity to spare. The shop runs a lot of magazine and catalog work, as well as working with many local businesses and the several major universities nearby. “This was a big investment for us, to go from a 4-up press to this one,” said Farrell. “But we are already starting to see the return on our investment.” The National Group has always taken pride in the high quality of their work and their press operators are definitely noticing a sharper image on their customers’ print jobs. “Our customers also enjoy the speed and cost savings,” he said. And with the ability to print more on a single sheet, there is more consistency across the board. “We are very pleased with the quality, while at the same time doubling our sheet size,” he noted. The new RMGT 9 Series press is going to allow them to capture more work from many of their current clients. “Many of our customers, most of them marketing firms, use more than one print vendor,” he said. “And they would send us the work best suited for our specific press. Now we can tap into larger jobs for those customers, and get a larger portion of that business.” The shop is also starting to make calls to customers where they just weren’t competitive before, with Farrell giving one example of a large annual report for a private university. The National Group couldn’t even bid on that work before, but the new RMGT 9 Series press opens up new opportunities. The fact that the LED-UV curing on the RMGT 9 Series press can be field upgraded was a big selling point for the National Group. “It’s in our plans in the next 12-24 months to add the LED component,” he said. “It’s nice that I don’t have to get a whole new press to get LED. I can really see the benefit of that technology, it was just a matter of budgeting. We’re already starting to save money to add it, and I’m looking forward to it.” “This is an exciting new relationship for us,” said Chris Manley, President of Graphco, a founding member of the Graphic Systems North America group of authorized RMGT distributors. “The National Group is proof that a shop willing to be flexible and adapt over time will find success. We are proud to be part of their story moving forward and I’m excited to see how much the new RMGT 9 will help their continued growth.” About Graphic Systems North America (GSNA) GSNA is a group of six factory authorized sales and service centers for RMGT that serve commercial printers, offset packaging converters and in-plant printers in the U.S. and Canada.
